Most preservative systems for make up ensure the shelf life of products as well as keep bacterial contamination at bay once opened. However these is not a set date to when the product will last.
Its depended on many factors I'll go through the products and when it would be best to throw them out.

In general you you would be able to see if a product has expired way beyond its use by date when it starts to separate. This usually happens when the product is way over its used by date , many products should be thrown out before then.

1. Foundations and concealers .

Generally foundations should only be kept for max a year after opening but this is taking into consideration that you have kept the foundation away from contaminates and bacterial.

Tips to extend the life of your foundation:

Keep foundation away from damp locations such as the bathroom
Keep out of direct sunlight
Use a paddle pop stick or something which is clean to take a small amount of foundation out each time and avoid direct contact with you hands or brush.
Close the lid to the foundation as quick as you can to minimize contact with air as this changes the product
Try to not open too many bottles of foundations, i know its hard when you want to try several products but its going to take you longer to finish them.

2. Eye Make up.

Generally it has a life of about a year if you keep them dry and use clean brushed to apply.
The make up will change if its wet and there is mold and other lovely bacterial which can grow on it that is not visible to the eye.

Tips to extend the life of your eye make up:

Keep away from damp locations such as the bathroom
Use a clean brush to apply your eye make up.
buy smaller pots of eye make up which ensures that it dose not go to waste.

3. Lipsticks and gloss

This is a hard one . Your mouth is filled with bacteria and if your one that loves to lick their lips , you better change you lip stick/gloss every month.

Tips to extend the life of your lip stick /gloss :

ensure your lips are clean before application
use a clean brush to apply your lip stick and once you are done ,wipe down with a cleansing wipe to save you the trouble of wiping down when u need it next timev and it keeps the brush clean.
Lip Gloss , same applies, ensure you have clean lips when applying
Don't be tempted to lick your lips and eat the lip gloss or lip stick off . If you do , when you reapply make sure you wipe your lips.

4. Eyeliners and mascaras

These are use by your eyes daily and will get oil build up on the applicator. Generally one open the item will last 1-5 month if its not dry up. Best to keep them for only about 3 months max 5 and throw them out.
You can see the tip of the applicator start to get dirty . throw it .
If the eyeliner is hardening up - throw it
Mascara start to smell alcoholic - throw it

In General ~~ Let your common sense prevail

I purchased this production in hopes that it will help cover some of my enlarged pores.
The package is all in Japanese so if you don't understand it was a bit of an effort to figure out which color of the product was for what.

The product claims to :

-correct pore problems in different areas, concealing enlarged pores caused by aging or acnes.
-White concealer is for cheek pores. It contains silicon powder, jojoba oil and peptide to fill in pores, prevent dry skin and restore elasticity.
-Beige concealer is for nose pores. Empowered with sebum absorbing powder, highly-resistant polymer, vitamin C derivative and vitamin E, it not only works to conceal blackheads and acnes, but also helps correct dull skin, performing perfect makeup finish.

Verdict:

The product was light and i tried to use it on my nose which was my main issue at the moment with enlarged pores. The Beige concealer glided on pretty well but you need to use a lot to really get the full effect , for me it seems like i was putting the pores with more product to smooth it out. It was light so didn't cake .

The White concealer was very watery and light when you placed it on your skin. Initially i expected a more concentrated balm and was very surprise at how it felt on. It definitely helped in smoothing out the skin but regarding for coverage i personally didn;t really find it that useful.

If you have not very big pores and just want to obtain a very flawless finish this product is great as it allows you to achieve a very flawless look while the product is very hydrating to ensure that the make up/foundation smooth right over it.

If you have excessively big pores this product still would work but you will have to put a large amount on. I would suggestion you don;t even though the product seems to not clog the pores but less is more when you are trying to tighten the skin and refine the pores.

Still a worthy purchase

This year seem to be a trend toward the same flawless look with a bit of edge. Think girl next door with a twist of more edgy splash of colors if you wanna go bold.

Here are some makeup ideas and how to. The extract from mags should be taken in context , you don't need to take the whole look on board but there is key aspect of each look which i do find nice and would be great to incorporate in your everyday look. The Japanese mags sometimes tends to go really theatrical.

My Key tips :

-Keep your eye brows thinker to give you a more youthful and vibrant look

-Less is more, Aim for flawless skin buy using a BB Cream rather then foundation . If you are going to use foundation use a light coverage and use concealer.

-Use a Hi-definition powder to set your make up this is give an additional flawless effect and your will be camera ready all the time. Cargo or use products such as Nude by nature.

- Eyelashes - natural set will help you define the eyes so you don't really need to put on thick eyeliner. Keep the eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible.

- Shadows - keep to the pinks, browns, golds, peach and if you want to add some jazz to the look, use different color shadows such as blue, green to lightly line the corners or line the bottom :)

- Lips : choose more pinks, peach and nude tones for day use and for a more dramatic look use a hot pink , a pale pink , a orange color , red ( make sure to keep the rest of the face simple)

Blush : more nautral tones like peach , pinks, electrical pink rough is also a good color but make sure you a light with it or you end up looking like u are sun burn .
