When does your make up expire? and how to extend their life

Most preservative systems for make up ensure the shelf life of products as well as keep bacterial contamination at bay once opened. However these is not a set date to when the product will last.
Its depended on many factors I'll go through the products and when it would be best to throw them out.

In general you you would be able to see if a product has expired way beyond its use by date when it starts to separate. This usually happens when the product is way over its used by date , many products should be thrown out before then.

1. Foundations and concealers .

Generally foundations should only be kept for max a year after opening but this is taking into consideration that you have kept the foundation away from contaminates and bacterial.

Tips to extend the life of your foundation:
  • Keep foundation away from damp locations such as the bathroom
  • Keep out of direct sunlight
  • Use a paddle pop stick or something which is clean to take a small amount of foundation out each time and avoid direct contact with you hands or brush.
  • Close the lid to the foundation as quick as you can to minimize contact with air as this changes the product
  • Try to not open too many bottles of foundations, i know its hard when you want to try several products but its going to take you longer to finish them.
2. Eye Make up.

Generally it has a life of about a year if you keep them dry and use clean brushed to apply.
The make up will change if its wet and there is mold and other lovely bacterial which can grow on it that is not visible to the eye.

Tips to extend the life of your eye make up:
  • Keep away from damp locations such as the bathroom
  • Use a clean brush to apply your eye make up.
  • buy smaller pots of eye make up which ensures that it dose not go to waste.
3. Lipsticks and gloss

This is a hard one . Your mouth is filled with bacteria and if your one that loves to lick their lips , you better change you lip stick/gloss every month.



Tips to extend the life of your lip stick /gloss :
    • ensure your lips are clean before application
    • use a clean brush to apply your lip stick and once you are done ,wipe down with a cleansing wipe to save you the trouble of  wiping down when u need it next timev and it keeps the brush clean.
    • Lip Gloss , same applies, ensure you have clean lips when applying
    • Don't be tempted to lick your lips and eat the lip gloss or lip stick off . If you do , when you reapply make sure you wipe your lips.
    4. Eyeliners and mascaras

    These are use by your eyes daily and will get oil build up on the applicator. Generally one open the item will last 1-5 month if its not dry up. Best to keep them for only about 3 months max 5 and throw them out.
    You can see the tip of the applicator start to get dirty . throw it .
    If the eyeliner is hardening up - throw it
    Mascara start to smell alcoholic - throw it

    How to Clean your skin propertly to remove all the make up to prevent acne and build up




    These days it hard to keep your skin clear from the dust and the pollution build up after going out.
    Heres a few products which i found very useful.

    I personally struggled before to find a best way to have long lasting make up and keep my skin clean to prevent acne and blocked pores (whiteheads).

    To cleanse your face first have a good make up removal routine and combine it with a good cleaner.I found using Make up wipes such as Simple or Johnson and Johnson was great but it dose not always clear the skin fully.
    1. use the make up wipes as a preparation to clear most of the makeup and pollution off my skin. 
    2. Then use a make up oil , Shuemura gives the best results. 
    3. Using the massage it lightly on the face this will get into all the pores to remove any build up .
    4. Then use a cotton pad to remove the oil and you will clearly see how much make up is still left on the skin. It is always surprising . But think about how its now GONE ... awesome!!
    5. The move to using your cleanser to wash your face. I suggest using a mild ex foliate cleaner for daily use as this will also help prevent build ups and remove dead skin cells . This give you clear skins.
    6. wet your face . Get a bit of the cleaner and mix it with some water then gently message it through your skin
    7. Get a face towel and gently remove the cleaner. 
    8. Then pop on your serums and face cream






     Shu Uemura n- WHITE RECOVERY EX+ Brightening Cleansing Oil - My all time Fav
    with Vitamin C Derivative it brightening smooth to give translucent skin. This removes anything but its also very gentle on the skin.

    Best Make up setter for long lasting makeup


    Makeup always tend to run after a long day from natural oils and the elements.
    Here is a few personal favorites which i use to set the make up in the morning for a long lasting look. Less touch up.

    All the below products pretty much do the same thing. It sets your make up with a solution which bonds the make up together. This means less touch ups and helps prevents it from the elements.


    1. Graftobian Make-up setting Spray.

    Graftobian is a professional make up brand which largely used by professional makeup artiest to create long lasting looks such for special effects and movies.

    This brand has a lot of product i personally love the Make up setting spray and the HD make up they offer.
    You want flawless skin you will definitely get it .

    The spray is very concentrated so a little goes a long way.
    This spray can be found online or in Australia you can purchase through any professional makeup artiest stores.


    2. Urban Decay-

    All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

     

    Since Urban Decay is not sold in Australia , this product is hard to track down. The official Urban Decay site do not ship outside USA so if you want to get  your hands on this product you will need to search in stores like Sephora.

     3. Model in a bottle



    Which one to choose?

    Personally all three a great products but for the savvy shopper the price makes a big difference.

    The Model in a bottle and Graftobian's makeup setter is the best priced ranging from 18-20s.

    Urban Decay is the most expensive at close to 30 USD.

    It really comes down to what your would prefer as all three products works really well but if you have sensitive skin then you will want to choose the brand that works better for you. 

    Cyber Colors-Sparkling Liquid liner ( 閃爍美鑽眼線液) - Review



    On my quest to find some new liquid eye liner i spotted this on-line and it booted that it was Sparkling and fine tip. It was very similar to the ones i brought it Japan before and with the additional promotion of SPARKLING.. i was sold. :p

    I actually ordered all three since it was Sparkling , what can really go wrong. :S

    Verdict:
    The liner itself is great, the brush tip works well to create a nice clean line on the lid. The product is from Germany so quality whiles it was pretty good.
    The boost by the product to be NATURAL.. um.. maybe not so much ,sparkle.

    Black: The color is pretty much like a black liner with small specks of glitter through it, the liquid itself it a bit thin which do not sit too well and provide a very good coverage for defined eyes. You need to pretty much do a few coats which is a bit of a waste of time.

    Purple is about the same as the Black.

    White/pearl:
    This is defiantly pearl white sparkle , I still trying to work it into my make up routine on how to use it as its very pearl metallic. It is lovely but very dramatic , It would work really well if you have a define lid and use this as highlight. I have more of an Asian lid where my crease is very deep and close to the eye so using this liner is a bit hard.. still work in progress, if it works i'll post the results and let you see.
    As a highlight from the eye this is way to metallic and didn't work well on :(

    If you're going out clubbing or dress up party this is great as its high impact!! :)








    HOW TO put on Liquid eyeliner and Naris Up - Wink Up Maxigrade Eyeliner Review (娜麗絲 快捷防水眼線液)




    I was looking for a good long lasting eye liner and i spotted this while i was shopping . It boosted that it was quick dry within 10 seconds and the tip was fine. Alright the packaging was not very appealing as such ... but thought i will give it a shoot , approximately 9 USD it was a pretty good buy . In the end its a Japanese liner, what can go wrong ?


    Verdict

    This eye liner was everything I was looking for , fine tip, wet pen liner, quick dry.
    As you can see from the photo below the tip is very fine which make it very easy to use. I tend to put my liner on in a rush in the morning and this is definitely quick and easy to use , never have to do any fix up with it as it dry so quickly.

     I am sure the rest of you who are Asian will understand how painful it is when the eye liner gets to the top of your lids when you blink. There goes the bloody make up and you have to redo it or touch up which usually don't end well , you end up with a bit of a uneven lid color as your trying to cover the spot you wiped off with additional eye makeup.

    The only disappointment is that it dry up much quicker then other liners as it is 10 secs dry on your lids so you have to replace the cap as quick as you can to perverse the liner from drying out.

    All in all its still an excellent product it lasted me a about a month+ .
    For 9USD its definitely worth buying



    How to put your eyeliner on?

      Most of your would have already been familiar with putting your liner on, but for those who are still learning , I'll just so a quick overview before i get into the different styles.

    Crash course for the beginners before we get to the style:

    When applying your liner you should always start from the center of your eyes. This helps you get a better line and also it help you keep a relatively even shape on both eye. Additional always so small stroke. You don't have to do your eyeliner in one line, for must of the population that dose not work as non of us have both eye perfectly symmetrical. 

    Draw a bit of your liner and look up at the mirror to see where you are to ensure you don't go over board with the liner. 

    Wink the end of the eyes to elongate the line outwards.

    What kind of style should your eyeliner take?

    Depending on your eye shape and the look you are after  I have collected a range of samples below to suite the style you are looking for. Personally I like to make the eyes look longer to get it length and then using the fake lashes. This make it more dramatic and define on the top which allows for a more clean and chick look.

    The first example would suit most eyes which i love. If you have mono-lids you can still use the same eyeliner technique, you can opt to use double lid tap or glue, or just add a pair of long lashes and this is frame your eyes to make them dazzling.

    SportsGirls Product review - 2012 April




    For those who are not in Australia , Sportsgirls is a large fashion chain store similar to ASOS and Forever21. This store originally started selling more sporty ware for and casual wear and now has become more trendy , it has also branched out providing large range of accessories and make ups and of course shoes.

    I use to love SportsGirls but through the years lost interest in the clothing , but the accessories, makeups and shoes still gets my attention.



     Clothing :

     The clothing this coming season ( Autumn in Australia) looks causal and chick. There is a few very out there pieces in the store which , not everyone can pull off. They looks awesome but too hard to ware them out. 

    My lastest great clothing purchase was a fur jacket from SportsGirls. I was looking for a nice evening jacket for my long ball grown and i spotted this. 


    Girls FYI, they having 20% off at the moment in store on full priced items :p RUN...lol

    Alright , this photo doesn't do the jacket justice, it looks much nice the fur is more black. It's very comfortable and is a keeper for winters and night outs to make an outfit more classy or funky chic depends how you mix and match. 

    Beauty review :

    Lip Sticks and Gloss

    Since the first release of their beauty range I  have been in love. I love my Brands but the colors range that they have, its very unique and has become a must buy.
    The Lip Sticks and Lip Gloss are only about 10 AUD , i personally Love at the moment is :
    • the Nude ( more pink nude) LipStick
    • Fruit tingle ( pinkish orange color with a hint of nude )LipStick
    • Peachy Keen- LipGloss 
    • Heart Breaker - LipGloss(Light Up) - my all time Fav

     The closest to these colors which i love was from Korean and Japanese brands which being in Sydney is not alway quick to just pick one up.

    My all time favorite from their collections is the Light Up Lip Gloss , the reason its called Light Up is that there is alight inside the Lip Applicator which allows you to see in the dark. ( See below i too a photo )
    Not only that the color is great on the lips , is also fun. I have been asked so many times everywhere i go where i got my LipGloss from. 
    hint hint, its also a awesome conversation starter with the girls and the guys/men. You would not believe how many time guys came up and asked that i was doing there is a light there and we have started a conversation. :p






    EyeMakeUp 

    I am a massive fan of their EyeMake Up. The color combination is great and also application to the eye is smooth. It up there with most of the Japanese products. Cost around 10 AUD and is worth is.
    They occasionally come out with limited addition packages which are very cute , very similar to the Benefit ones, that look like a note book .

    I personally love the Shady Lady range in brown/bronze. I have use this color combination since they have first come out and it is great for everyday use. Very natural and u get the shades you need. :) MUST BUY.






     


     Bronzer


    Bronzers are a must !! It provides your with contour to your face and a sun kissed look for summer and spring. It also doubles as a very natural blush.

    Here is my Favorites from SportGirls.

    Bronze Me bronzing 

     powder is wonderful for contouring and if you need an eye make up in an emergency this is also good as a substitute. I mainly use  in the following areas( see image) this highlights your eyes and cheeks to give you a more defined look.

    Don't go crazy with it or you look like a two tone brown panda.

    Just to give you an idea of what difference good contouring and highlights do for you , i popped a photo of Kim Kardashian photo of before and after . Make sure you highlight your face as well and press with press powered to set your makeup and blend your highlights and contouring.




    Get Cheeky Bronzer and Blush

    This is awesome , its like 3 in one. Contour, blush and highlight.


    You can use a large brush and get all 3 colors tones and brush it on or use separately . My friend brought this more me as part of a massive birthday pack she put together and i have never been without it.
    The color gives a very natural tone to the skin and the pink and nude highlight really bring out your cheeks and provide a natural blushing look.

    2B Alternative - Skirt Ready - 2B 專業瘦下半身配方


    Initially when I first hard about this product I wasn't sure it was really going to work. There has been a lot of hype about the product in Asian and I took went and took the plug to test it out.

    It promotes that the product Skirt ready will help reduce fat and mussel masses on the leg to give you a more elongated look to your legs and as the name notes skirt ready.
    The product also helps reduce the amount of hair growth on your legs which is a bonus.
    I have tried the other products in the 2B range and I really like them, cause the work.
    Ok, if your looking for an overnight miracle that's not going to happen but with continuous use it dose have a great result.

    Verdict :
    I used 2B Skirt ready to help get into a better shape for a wedding and it worked alright to help reduce the hair growth and help tone my legs.
    As I said before if your looking for an over night miracle it's not going to happen but if you want something to help improve and support your current weight loss to he perfect figure this is. Product which I would suggest that you have on hand ;)

    Overall ,the smell is very medicated but not horrible. The cream heats up and u feel it tingle , kind of feels like you put those mussel pain heat cream on.

    If you got sensitive skin , I would suggest that you do a test on a small part of your body as you may get irritations .

    This is a pretty good but to try to help tone up for summer or for winter to keep you tone figure do there is less working out closer to spring and summer . You do need to buy a set and use it for a period to get full effect . There usually promotion packs which are great values , so if your unsure if this suit you , you might wannna share it with your friend and test it out first.
